1st year anniversary with stockholm

Thu Aug 27, 2009, 10:35 PM
Written on friday 21st:

Today is my first year anniversary with this wonderful city. A year ago today, I came to this city with no home, a sore throat, rain pouring down on me as I tried to carry a bassguitar, two heavy handbags, two heavy suitcases that I tried to fit the world in as I had no intentions of going back. Not a very well welcome some may think, but I was still happy, sooo happy!

And today, the sun is shining and there is a huge blockparty on the street I live on: Skånegatan. It's the city's gift to me : happy anniversary darling!

A lot has happened since that rainy day: I finished the first year of my master's programme, I learnt a good deal of swedish- enough to read novels (not easy-reading crap), I've met the cutest guy and we've been together for over 9 months now, and I' ve been living in the wonderful Södermalm. So I decided to make this blog, not for you to read but as a gift for the city, for our first anniversary, for giving me all these nice memories already.

as a tribute to dearest shannon hoon...

  • Listening to: blind melon- soul one
i was 13 when i bought the "soup" album of blind melon, it was the first real rock album i bought, if we don't count the bryan adams album i bought when i was 10, or the guns 'n roses mix tapes the walkman magazine gave. my "soup" album was a tape too coz cd's didn't exist back then (or at least in turkey).

anyway the moment i started listening to the album i loved it. it's still one of my favorite albums ever. you know one of those you never get tired of listening to. shannon's amazing voice taking you to a different world, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes angry, sometimes hopeful...and the bass riffs of brad smith, i believe, played a huge role in my picking up the bass in the first place.

then came the death news of shannon, which were hard to take. i remember crying for hours that night after reading the article on him on the blue jean magazine over and over again. it's interesting how one bond's with a person s/he doesn't even know. i still love shannon deeply, and his death which was coz of overdose is i believe one of the reasons why i'm so against drug use. i recall writing many articles on why people shouldn't use drugs back in highschool days.

i don't wanna keep writing too much and bore you people though i can write pages and pages about this man.

he's been gone for 12 years today, and he's still remembered and loved. for those who still do too like me, let's listen to his songs today. the best way to make him happy wherever he is...

peace y'all...

back from london...

i'm just back from london. my third trip to london was really nice. i became an actual londoner this time. i travelled all around it, and even out of it.

i went to some places i haven't been on my previous trips, such as shakespeare's globe, and charles dickens' house.

i went to brighton one weekend and it was amazing. i totally fell in love with brighton. such a perfect place. i also went to cambridge for a day but didn't like it as much. nothing else than schools and churches. although obviously i felt like going into one of the collage libraries, crawl into a chair, and read there for hours.

there was a lot of rain this time even though it was august, but it was ok. now that i'm here and melting coz of the hot weather i even kinda miss it.

i went to some really good concerts including sparta, and you will know us by the trail of dead, and hot hot heat. i could've gone to more but they were already sold out. there are really nice shows coming up i wanted to see actually but i had to return.
